Long time, no bloggy

Yeah, yeah... I know. Sorry it's been a while since my last update.

Here's a little tidbit for you: Panther City Bicycles has been named one of the "Official Bike Shops" for the 2006 north Texas course of the MS150.

There is one significant change for this year's MS150... the route now starts north of Dallas, overnights at Texas Motor Speedway, and ends on day to right here in our 'hood, in Sundance Square.

As part of our Official Bike Shop duties, we'll be providing ride support, offering free pre-ride inspections to MS150 riders, and promoting the ride here in our shop.

If you want to know more about the ride, come ask me about it, or go to the MS150 website.

Endorsed by the MasiGuy!

That's right, Panther City Bicycles has earned an endorsement from Tim Jackson, brand manager of Masi Bicycles, as the coolest place to spend money in Fort Worth. Read about it on the MasiGuy's Blog.

Friday Night Ride

Come join us for a Friday night mountain bike ride along the Trinity Trail levees... Start is here at the shop at 7 p.m., so obviously lights will be necessary. We'll go somewhere afterward for food and drink. Frosty, frosty drink.

Saturday's beer ride...

The beer ride was a resounding success, and here are the photos to prove it:

We started with the traditional pre-ride lubrication ceremony...

then qeued up for the ride to Rahr.

Raced a train in Trinity Park...

then headed up 7th into downtown.

There's nothing like riding in a big group of cyclists downtown.

Finally, the Brewery! Hmmm... yeah, I'd tap that.

This is where the magic happens.

Here's Jason with the man behind the beer, Fritz Rahr (owner, brewmaster, bottler, AND delivery driver).

The brewery is awesome... you've got to check it out if you haven't already.

Also a good place to meet folks, like Mandi, Lindsay, and Aaron here.

These are only a few of the pictures, but all reports indicate that a good time was had. I'm thinking we need to do this again on the first Saturday of every month, so Jason and I can take turns going. Who's in?

The man known on local forums as DigitalRebel also took quite a few photos, including of the pub crawl afterward that went on all night. See those pictures here

Panther City, ... California?

As far as we know, there is no "Panther City" in California. Nevertheless, we have a small but growing contingent of fans there, as the following photos prove.

Exhibit A: SoCal

Meet Tim Jackson, our buddy and brand manager at Masi Bicycles, sportin' our jersey. Tim is kind of a big deal. By which I mean he is literally a large man, like 6'13" or something. Don't be fooled by his gargantuan stature, though... he is probably faster than you. Tim enjoys long training rides along the beach, leading pacelines for miles while pulling his daughter in a trailer (yes, he's that strong), and big guys on bikes like Swedish Paris-Roubaix champ Magnus Backstedt make his heart skip a beat (Tim's words, not mine... but hell, Jan Ullrich makes my heart skip two beats and makes my toes all tingly, so who am I to say anything?). By the way, Tim also has a blog called MasiGuy, where you can get the latest news, including info on Masi's sponsorship of the new Abercrombie & Fitch/Inferno pro road racing team.

Exhibit B: NorCal

Many of you might recognize Mark on the right... Mark lives in Fort Worth, where he plays guitar in approximately 13.7 different bands, but he is originally from Northern California, where he is not in a band, but where this picture was taken. On the right is Mark's dad, who hails from Italy. Or at least his ancestors do. They both proudly ride bikes carrying the names of Italian master builders: Mark - a Masi Cran Corsa he bought from us, and his dad - the Bianchi in the foreground. They both also have impeccable taste in upper-body cyclewear, as you can see.

Beer Ride!

This Saturday, January 7, there will be a beer ride starting here at the shop. Ride leaves at 1:00 p.m. sharp; the first leg will be a liesurely jaunt (5 miles or so, any bike welcome... cruisers, ss, gearies, whatever) over to the Rahr & Sons Brewery for a FREE BEER TASTING. If you haven't tried any of Fritz Rahr's beers, you're missing out on one of Fort Worth's best kepts secrets. A killer microbrewery, and it's not just local... it's in our neighborhood!

Fritz says there's plenty of room inside the brewery for everyone's bikes, so if you're heading home after the tasting you may not even have to bring a lock. Lots of riders are planning on continuing the festivities with an impromptu bicycle-powered pub crawl afterward, though, so it's better to be prepared.
